What is the crucial difference between an active member and an alumni member? We are all bound together by our Ritual, as brothers and as equals. However, alumni members have one distinct area in which they differ from our active members – experience. Whether that experience be serving as a Corporation Board member, being employed in a specific industry, or knowing how and when to invite a lady out to dinner, our alumni members have years and years of experience that sets them apart from their undergraduate counterparts.

One of the most important aspects of the Cornerstones program is alumni mentoring. Acacia Fraternity is creating a new advising model for our alumni members to be involved at the chapter level. Traditionally the House Corporation Board or Alumni Association has been the primary mode of involvement for our alumni members – but we are hoping to provide a more meaningful relationship in the future.

Cornerstones promotes an attitude of continuous learning and improvement for our members. Alumni members can play a critical role in an undergraduate’s development by way of being a Level Advisor or Career Development Mentor. A Level Advisor would have a more direct role of helping the active member set personal goals and then establish an action plan to achieve them, providing encouragement along the way. Once an active member identifies his chosen career path, he will be connected with a Career Development Mentor that will serve as more of a professional guide.

Either way – it is important for Acacia Fraternity to remain at the top of the list of organizations that our alumni members actively contribute to, and these new roles provide another avenue to continue “Preparing Tomorrow’s Leaders.”
